2.3 Cookies

What are cookies and why do we use them on the BYDH websites?
A cookie is a file that is downloaded to a user’s device when accessing certain web pages. It stores and retrieves information about the user’s browsing habits.

Cookies allow a website, among other things, to store and retrieve information about the user’s habits and settings. At BYDH, we use them to personalize the experience on our websites, identify and remember user preferences, including their registration, and facilitate navigation. We emphasize that the use of cookies on our websites does not provide personal data about the user, so they remain anonymous to us.

Each user can configure their browser to not accept the use of cookies. In this case, the personalization of the experience would not apply, although they could still access the content on our websites normally.

For more information about what cookies are and how they work, we recommend reading the Wikipedia page on Cookies.

What types of cookies are used on BYDH websites?

Cookies, depending on their duration, can be divided into session or permanent cookies. The former expire when the User closes the browser. The latter expire depending on when the purpose for which they are used is fulfilled (for example, to keep the User logged in on BYDH websites) or when they are manually deleted.

Additionally, depending on their purpose, cookies can be classified as follows:

PERFORMANCE COOKIES: This type of cookie remembers your preferences for the tools found in the Services, so you do not have to reconfigure the service each time you visit. Examples include:

Volume settings for video or audio players.
The video streaming speeds supported by your browser.
GEO-LOCATION COOKIES: These Cookies are used to determine the country in which the User is located when a Service is requested. This Cookie is completely anonymous and is only used to help target content to the User’s location.

LOGGING COOKIES: Logging Cookies are generated once the User has registered or subsequently opened a session, and are used to identify the User in the Services for the following purposes:

To keep the User identified so that, if they close a Service, their browser, or their computer and at another time or on another day re-enter that Service, they will continue to be identified, thus facilitating navigation without having to re-identify themselves. This functionality can be disabled if the User clicks the “disconnect” or “log out” option. This Cookie is deleted, and the next time they access the Service, the User will have to log in to be identified.

To check whether the User is authorized to access certain Services, for example, to participate in a contest.

Additionally, some Services may use connectors with social networks such as Facebook or Twitter. When the User registers for a Service with social network credentials, they authorize the social network to store a persistent Cookie that remembers their identity and grants them access to the Services until it expires. The User can delete this Cookie and revoke access to the Services through social networks by updating their preferences on the specified social network.

ANALYTICS COOKIES: Each time a User visits a Service, a tool from a third-party provider (Google Analytics and similar providers, which may be added to this list if they change from the current ones) generates an analytics Cookie on the User’s computer. This Cookie, which is only generated during the visit, will be used on future visits to BYDH Services to anonymously identify the visitor. The main objectives pursued are:

  • To allow the anonymous identification of browsing Users through the “Cookie” (it identifies browsers and devices, not people) and therefore to approximate the number of visitors and their trends over time.
  • To anonymously identify the most visited content and, therefore, the most attractive to Users.
  • To determine whether the accessing User is new or a repeat visitor.

Important: Unless the User decides to register on a BYDH, SL website, the “Cookie” will never be associated with any personal data that could identify them. These Cookies will only be used for statistical purposes to help optimize the User experience on the site.

More information about the privacy policy of these analytics tools can be found at:

Google Analytics (http://www.google.es/intl/es/analytics/privacyoverview.html)
