Renewable Energy Storage

BESS
The proposal to avoid new “zeroes” still has significant legal loopholes in Spain.

Reversible Hydraulic Power Plants
Pumping water for reuse allows for the production of renewable electricity at a very competitive price.

Fuel Cells
The viability of renewable fuels and energies depends largely on improving the efficiency of fuel cells.
Water Positive
The Water Positive concept can be defined as the concept in which an entity, such as a company, community, or individual, goes beyond simple water conservation and actively contributes to the sustainable management and restoration of water resources. This involves implementing practices and technologies that reduce water consumption and improve its quality and availability.
The goal of being Water Positive is to have a positive impact on aquatic ecosystems and ensure that more water is conserved and restored than is used or depleted.
Regenerative Agriculture
Regenerative agriculture is a set of organic farming and grazing practices that reverse climate change by regenerating soil organic matter and restoring biodiversity to degraded soil, resulting in increased carbon dioxide sequestration and improved water cycles. Among other benefits, it expands ecosystem services, increases resilience to climate change, and strengthens the health and vitality of farmland.
Legislation
Hydrogen legislation in Spain, specifically in relation to green hydrogen, is constantly evolving. Although no legislation is “obsolete” in the sense that it has been repealed, certain aspects of the regulation are being reviewed and updated as technology advances and new goals for the energy transition are established.
Some laws and regulations have been amended to adapt to the needs of green hydrogen, but there are still challenges and areas that require greater regulatory clarity.
GeoPolitics
The Iberian Peninsula is destined to become the distribution hub for imported hydrogen for the rest of Europe.
In Universities
Universities should consider including hydrogen in their curricula.
At OH2, we will promote a debate among all participating universities.
Why Oviedo?
Let’s not waste any more time with cloned exhibitions and symposia; we want to tackle the entire issue of green hydrogen without hindrance.
There’s a long road ahead, and Oviedo is the beginning of the Camino.

Venue
Oviedo has had an Exhibition and Conference Centre (PEC) since 2011, built in Buenavista based on a design by architect Santiago Calatrava, winner of the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts in 1999. The Centre, which has been under municipal management since 2014, is a spectacular white building with 15,640 square metres of concrete, steel and glass. It is shaped like a shell and features the characteristic giant ribs of its creator’s work. It is accessed through a glass-enclosed entrance.
